The thread woven through my entire career is a deep passion for driving and supporting the development of people.

My own experience taught me that the ways we act and react are often wired into us subconsciously, and that we therefore may be acting unintentionally and in ways that block us from getting what we want and being who we want to be. I coach to help people build mental and emotional agility - so that they understand themselves more deeply, have greater self-awareness and the ability to consider other perspectives, and design goal- and action-oriented plans to help them evolve. They can then make more conscious choices and therefore meaningful change in their careers and their lives, while they are still building their foundation and have so much ahead.

MEET YOUR coach

ABBIE YOUNG

Hey there! I'm Abbie, Founder and CEO of AGYL ("agile") coaching and consulting. I’m an executive and leadership coach who has spent more than fifteen years working with high-performing individuals and teams across several industries, from elite athletics and non-profits to higher education and consulting. I studied applied positive psychology in grad school, with the goal of understanding how to help people thrive, and now I work with young professionals, leaders, and teams to help them navigate challenges, enhance their performance, and make sustainable change. My work supports a variety of both professional and personal growth, including confidence, presence, and leadership skills throughout several stages of life, from the transition into the workforce to leading a team for the first time. Drawing on the full extent of my background, I bring a unique blend of rigor and warmth to my work. I am deeply passionate about helping people create and take advantage of opportunities for growth, and I’d love the chance to work with you.

what makes agyl unique

Founded for young professionals, by a young professional.

You don’t see this in the coaching space.

Typically, coaching is done by and focused on older executives. My thinking: Why wait? Establishing a personal practice for intentional and systematic growth, building self-awareness, defining values, and developing leadership skills earlier likely means greater effectiveness (and dare I say enjoyment) in the long-run. How did I think to focus on this group of young high-achievers who are habitually growth-oriented and move a million miles an hour? Because that's me. I needed a coach who could help me pause, look behind the curtain, and start making my own choices for real. So much changes, including us, between college and our 40s, and why not be intentional about becoming who we want to be while navigating that evolution?

THE COACHING PROCESS

  • 01 / UNDERSTANDING

Coaching is an opportunity to pause, deepen your self-awareness, and start making choices with intention. For people new to coaching, it’s critical to understand that coaching is not mentoring, advising, or therapy. Good coaches will not tell you what to do - they will ask provocative questions that help you determine this for yourself. Through awareness and goal-setting, coaching will anchor you in the present and the future, unlike therapy which tends to focus on the past.

  • 02 / FOUNDATION

Coaching engagements start with the building of strong foundations - for our relationship and your goals. Coaching won’t be effective if there isn’t trust, safety, communication, and a deep understanding of what the relationship is. We take time to get to know one another and build a space in which you can be honest, reflective, and open to new perspectives.

  • 03 / AWARENESS

Across a coaching engagement and within each session, I ask thought-provoking questions, offer observations, and reflect back things you’ve said. Through this process, you will build breadth and depth of understanding of yourself - how you think, act, and feel, and why you do. This expansion of self-awareness creates opportunities for you to change.

  • 04 / ACTION

Coaching is grounded in action. At the end of each coaching session, we take time for you to build a meaningful action plan - what you want to accomplish, observations you want to make, or experiments you want to try, all based on the self-awareness you worked to build. We explore obstacles you may face, what you’ll do when they arise, and what accountability measures you’d like to put in place.

  • 05 / ITERATION

Over the course of a coaching engagement, we’ll cycle through awareness and action many times and often across various contexts. You will learn about yourself through the work you do outside of our coaching sessions, and you’ll bring that awareness back to our work together. You can think of a coaching engagement as a spiral staircase - each session is one rotation of the stairs that elevates your growth, and the whole engagement is the culmination of several rotations that elevate you to the next level.

a little more about AGYL

  • AGYL takes letters from my full name - Abigayle. I didn’t want to give my company my name, because I wanted it to represent something bigger than me, and this let me do that while still incorporating a piece of me in there.

  • AGYL is pronounced “agile” - a nod to my history as an athlete but really about mental and emotional agility. I believe that strengthening these skills - being able to shift our perspectives, leverage our emotions, challenge our beliefs and assumptions, and change our decisions and actions - is what empowers us to live and lead more intentionally. It’s what defines my work.

here’s how we can work together

for individuals who want to maximize their impact in both their career and their leadership

for individuals who want to navigate similar challenges with intention, while building a community that can relate

for teams that are committed to elevating their performance and doing the work it takes to get there
